Product Details

Our greeting cards are 5" x 7" in size and are produced on digital offset printers using 100 lb. paper stock. Each card is coated with a UV protectant on the outside surface which produces a semi-gloss finish. The inside of each card has a matte white finish and can be customized with your own message up to 500 characters in length. Each card comes with a white envelope for mailing or gift giving.

Thank you very much! The painting is 30" by 40" which is large for a pastel. A photograph of the painting tends to reduce the strokes of the pastel, making it appear less like a painting. No photograph can capture the experience of standing before the original.The painting is one in a series of the lake, as viewed from the benches that surround it. The Jansen Art Center featured the series in a solo exhibit.

Artist's Description

One of a series of paintings, featuring views from the memorial benches around Lake Padden, one of the premier parks of Bellingham, Washington. The memorial benches are more than a resting place on the path around the lake. The benches celebrate the life of a person, but in the painting they are a symbol for death. The setting offers hope for life continuing.

Nick Payne

Nick Payne credits William Arthur Phillips, a gifted artist and teacher in Tacoma, WA, as an important early influence who developed Nick's art, and who inspired a career in art and education. Paintings posted on this site span four decades. Following graduation from the University of Washington, Nick spent two years in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Then he returned to the USA, and taught at a rural public school in northeastern Washington State. During this time he married. Several paintings from this time feature his children. After 20 years in the classroom, he returned to western WA and served as a principal for 13 years in the Bellingham and Ferndale school districts. Through most of his career in education, Nick�s parallel career...
